PhD Researcher - Greenhouse Digitalisation
Work Package
Nicolas is situated in the ‘greenhouse digitalisation’ work package, which is designed to investigate how greenhouse landscapes are responding to the injunction set by the EU’s ‘European Green Deal’ to transition to sustainable and ‘climate smart’ modes of production via a plethora of digital technologies: sensors and automatic lighting systems, robotics and drones, artificial intelligence and digital twins.
This line of the project asks:
How are greenhouses, as sites that need to adapt and innovate to achieve this goal, responding or resisting this vision this vision and its particular notion of sustainability?
What digital technologies are being applied to digitalise ‘green knowledge’; picking, automating climatic control, and recognising pests and pathogens; and how are the humans in the greenhouse working alongside these devices?
